I meant to add that to the orginal post.  Because of my newness to BW I assumed that my activate and connect were being skipped because of slowness on the workstation.  I created a loop that would check to see if my applicaiton was active and if not go back to the step with the activate and connect commands.   The loop worked, but it did not help.

That was when I noticed that I could click on about anything in Windows (definetly more then just the applicaiton or the BW console) and the activate and connect commands would then work as expected.  I thought at that point that maybe there is a different way to "activate" an applicaiton besides the activate command.

I will reach out to support when I have some free time.
